President’s Message

Thank you to everyone who helped and participated with this year’s Lawn Program, Estampas de Puerto Rico. This cultural event was a great success and helped exhibit the music and dance of our beloved island with all of San Diego. Many people were delighted to join Irené Aracay and Rick Chriss as they demonstrated Puerto Rican folk dances to the sounds of the Manny Cepeda Trio.Girl carring the Puerto Rican Flag

During the event, we also were able to raise thousands of dollars for hurricane relief that will be matched by Rotary International to help our familía in Puerto Rico. I am proud and honored to belong to such a dynamic group who gives from the heart every day.

Muchisimas gracías por todo.

Casilda “Cassie” Pagan

Desolación by Martín Crespo

Puerto Rico tierra mía,
Hoy que te encuentras obscura y fría,
No te dejes doblegar ni te dez a la maldad.
Todo esto pasará y tu volverás a cantar
A reir a bailar.

El viento y el torbellino a velocidad
Exagerada, destruyó toda morada.
Arrancó las hojas de tus árboles,
La campiña está desolada.

Dentro del alma el espíritu clama,
No te dejes vencer!
Boricua se lleva en el alma.
Y te levantarás vencedor
Como el Fénix de las llamas.
