La Casa de Puerto Rico, now known as The House of Puerto Rico San Diego (HPRSD), was founded in 1972 by a devoted group of Puerto Rican families, led by Doña Casilda Pagán, who understood the importance of preserving our heritage far from the island we call home. Their vision was to build an organization for and by its members that would become a network of people who share a deep passion for Puerto Rican culture and a commitment to celebrating and passing on our traditions.
Over the years, that vision has grown into a vibrant cultural institution. In February 2006, we proudly inaugurated our House of Puerto Rico cottage, La Casita, within the historic International Cottages of Balboa Park. Today, La Casita serves as both a welcoming gathering space and a museum that highlights the history, traditions, and contributions of Puerto Rico, offering visitors from around the globe an authentic and engaging cultural experience.
HPRSD continues to thrive through the dedication of its members, who bring our mission to life by contributing their time, talents, and shared love of Puerto Rican heritage. Together, we cultivate a strong sense of belonging, honor our history, and celebrate the richness of our culture throughout the San Diego region.
We warmly invite residents and friends of San Diego to join us in celebrating, sharing, and preserving the spirit of Puerto Rico. Whether you are Puerto Rican by birth, heritage, or simply by corazón, you are welcome to become a member of the House of Puerto Rico San Diego and be part of our vibrant cultural family.
